After his graduation and initial training at the University of Frankfurt Dr. Stefan Heinrich moved to the University Hospital of Zurich, where he completed his training in general surgery (2001-2008). In addition to a 2½-year lab fellowship, he received full training in HPB surgery and liver transplantation during a formal fellowship under the guidance of Prof. PA Clavien (2008-2010). Already during this fellowship he was trained minor laparoscopic liver resections.
Since the completion of this fellowship he has been working as attending surgeon in the HPB unit of the University Hospital of Mainz, where he established minimal-invasive liver and pancreas surgery. Several national and international publications are based on their minimal-invasive program, which is continuously expanding. Moreover, their unit has been organized surgical hands-on courses for liver surgery as well as Master Classes in laparoscopic liver surgery. Most importantly, they organized the 2017 E-AHPBA congress in Mainz, which had minimal-invasive surgery and future technologies as foci.
